چکیده

Motivated by the finding that the observed surface brightness profile of many galactic nuclei are well fit by double-power-laws, we explore a range of spherical self-consistent dynamical models with this light profile. We find that the corresponding deprojected volume density profile, phase space density and line-of-sight velocity distribution of these models are well fit by simple analytic approximations. We illustrate the application of these models by fitting a sample of about 25 galactic nuclei observed by Hubble Space Telescope. We give the derived volume density, phase space density, velocity dispersion and line profile parameters in tables. The models are useful for predicting kinematic properties of these galaxies for comparison with future observations. They can also be easily applied to seed N-body simulations of galactic nuclei with realistic density profiles for studying the evolution of these systems. The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Single and Binary Black Holes and Their Influence on Nuclear Structure

Massive central objects affect both the structure and evolution of galactic nuclei. Adiabatic growth of black holes generates power-law central density profiles with slopes in the range 1.5 <∼ −d log ρ/d log r <∼ 2.5, in good agreement with the profiles observed in the nuclei of galaxies fainter than MV ≈ −20. However the shallow nuclear profiles of bright galaxies require a different explanati...

Optical Variability of Active Galactic Nuclei

Variability studies of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) typically use either power spectral density (PSD) and structure function (SF) analyses or direct modeling of light curves with the damped random walk (DRW) and the continuous autoregressive moving average (CARMA) models. A fair fraction of research publications on the subject are flawed, and simply report incorrect results, because they lack ...

Hard, power-law X-ray emission from elliptical galaxies

We report the detection of hard, power-law emission components in the X-ray spectra of six nearby, giant elliptical galaxies observed with the ASCA satellite. The systems studied, which exhibit strong dynamical evidence for supermassive black holes in their nuclei, are M87, NGC 1399 and NGC 4696 (the dominant galaxies of the Virgo, Fornax and Centaurus clusters, respectively) and NGC 4472, 4636...

Optical Variability in Active Galactic Nuclei: Starbursts or Disk Instabilities?

Aperiodic optical variability is a common property of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), though its physical origin is still open to question. To study the origin of the optical – ultraviolet variability in AGN, we compare light curves of two models to observations of quasar 0957+561 in terms of a structure function analysis. In the starburst (SB) model, random superposition of supernovae in the nu...
